Food to Try

Singapore's hawker centres were recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2020 — they're the best place to eat, not a fallback option. Look for Hainanese chicken rice, chili crab, laksa, roti prata, char kway teow, and satay. Maxwell Food Centre, Old Airport Road Food Centre, and Chinatown Complex are well-known hawker destinations for first-time visitors.

Getting Around

The MRT (subway) is fast, clean, and covers most tourist areas — a rechargeable EZ-Link card or contactless bank card works across trains and buses. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are widely available and metered. Walking is easy and pleasant in most central districts, though the tropical humidity means pacing your day matters.

When to Go

Singapore sits just north of the equator, so it's warm and humid year-round with no distinct seasons — expect temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s°C (mid-80s to low 90s°F) any time of year. December to early January brings slightly higher rainfall; June to September is comparatively drier. Major events worth planning around include the Singapore Airshow (biennial) and Chinese New Year celebrations, when Chinatown is especially lively.
